The revamped version of iconic Nokia 3310 about to hit the market

NokiaNokia, the Finnish brand launched three new Android smartphones and revealed a better and smarter version of its iconic 3310 model. It has been more than a decade since it has exited the market and the new model will permit web browsing. Also, the old school game “Snake Xenzia” will be brought back along with the distinctive ringtones, popular among the Nokia fans.

The revamped version will allow you to talk for 22 hours which is ten times more than the original and a 1 month standby time, Arto Nummela, the head of Finnish start-up HMD Global announced. He said this during a presentation held in Barcelona on the eve of the start of the Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest mobile phone show. HMD Global will supposedly produce the phone under a licensing agreement with Nokia.
Back in 2000, this iconic model, Nokia3310 was launched which sold approximately 120 million units worldwide. Though it was discontinued in the year 2005, it was one of the world’s best-selling mobile phones. The new Nokia 3310 has been launched with the same moniker but with some visual upgrades. With dual sim, it runs Series 30+ and features a 2.4-inch QVGA display. It will also have a 2MP camera along with a microSD card slot.

The device will also be available in new colors, Yellow, Grey, Blue and Red. Furthermore, the handset is now slimmer than the previous version. HMD, the company with sole rights to manufacture Nokia handsets, will be making the Nokia 3310 available in the second quarter of this year at EUR49, which is roughly Rs 3,400.

Analysts are of the view that resurrecting the popular model was a clever path for HMD Global to relaunch Nokia’s brand. It can be estimated that Nokia could take 5 percent of the global smartphone market by the end of 2019.

There was a time between 1998 and 2011 when Nokia was the world’s top mobile maker but it was overtaken by South Korean rival Samsung after it couldn’t cope up with the rapid rise of smartphones. Till now it is a well-recognized brand amongst the developing economy. Now a leading telecom equipment maker, Nokia sold all of its handset business to Microsoft Corp in the year 2014.

Last year HMD bought Microsoft Mobile’s handset business and the right to use the brand, Nokia. As per the agreement, Nokia will be given royalty payments from HMD for sales of every Nokia branded mobile phone or tablet. By launching three new smartphones and an iconic mobile, it will create a halo effect around the other models by reviving talk about the Nokia brand.  In addition to the new 3310, HMD brought before us the three new smartphones, the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 which will sell for varied prices.
